Oooooooh, Aaaaaaaah
I can't do it right here because it requires a tiny bit of JavaScript, but check out what I did to the "Navigation Stage" on my homepage. (Might only work in IE 5.5+)

"light" is a CSS filter just like "wave" and "dropshadow" except it shines a 3D light onto an object. You can configure its location, brightness, color, size, sharpness, etc... choose among cone, ambient, or point lights... Very slick. It's only a "static" filter, but I used JavaScript to make it follow the mouse cursor. (I copied code from an example on MSDN but modified the hell out of it.)
