ClearType

If you're using Windows XP on an LCD monitor (laptop or flat panel), you should be using ClearType!

Even if you're using a traditional CRT monitor, it might still look better especially if your monitor uses a pattern of bars (similar to TVs and LCDs) rather than dots.

It is turned off by default, but you can turn it on from Dispaly Properties -> Appearance -> Effects -> "Use the following method ot smooth edges of screen fonts:" or by using the ClearType Web Interface, where you can also tune it to look best to you.

And if you're technically-minded, you'll find the description of how it works really interesting. :)
