...why can't they get the correct field dominance on their shows?

Standard televisions paint interlaced lines, which could be thought of as odds and evens. If you want to display a diagonal line, it needs to be done like this:

line 1: 000
line 2:   000
line 3:     000
line 4:       000
line 5:         000
line 6:           000
(etc.)

But on many of SpikeTV's shows, they paint the even and odd lines in the wrong order. (It's called field dominance because it's a matter of which field - odd or even lines - is dominant, or comes first.) So as a result, their diagonal lines look like this:

line 2:   000
line 1: 000
line 4:       000
line 3:     000
line 6:           000
line 5:         000

It's not just the diagonal lines that look wrong though. I'm just using that to illustrate the effect. It's visible everywhere, looking basically like the image has half the resolution it should have.

It's just damn annoying!
